Description
The lush valley of the Butterflies Valley in Rhodes
The most famous landmark of nature in Rhodes island.
In so many beauties of Rhodes, the castles, the beautiful settlements, the dazzling beaches
and the atmosphere that goes back to the knights' era,
the Valley of the Butterflies stands out for its exceptional natural beauty
and of course its winged "inhabitants".
It is located near the village of Theologos, on the northwest side of the island,
and is one of the rare habitats of Europe.
The area is the summer "refuge"
of the Rhodes butterfly called the Butterfly or Quadripunctaria butterfly.
In the spectacular Valley, the conditions are ideal for breeding butterflies,
which passes through lush vegetation and abundant running water, in summer.
The Pelican River, which flows through the Valley, creates striking natural formations
that highlight the beauty of the landscape: ponds, streams, small waterfalls.
All this framed by plenty of greenery - a rare species of plane tree thrives
in the area that favors the attraction of butterflies,
as a substance in its bark acts as a magnet.
Browse the beautiful valley and stop at the Natural History Museum
and the Kalopetra Monastery to enjoy the view from above.
