Built on a mountain slope and just 6 km from the city of Rhodes the village presents

important examples of traditional folk neoclassicism.

The name of the village comes either from the “perforated” ground due to the many excavations or from the occupation of its inhabitants with the construction of sieves, or even from the city of Lydia Koskinia from where the first inhabitants of the village are said to come.

In the area were found findings of the 4th and 5th century BC in chambers and tombs carved in artificial caves in rocks. There is also a medieval fortress that dates back to the 13th century.

There, residents resorted to emergencies. In 1912, during the Italian-Turkish war, the inhabitants helped the Italians against the Turks, while in 1919 bloody incidents took place in the village due to the demands for liberation.

The first school was built in 1880, while the inhabitants were mainly engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry but also in the production of lime.

The people of Koskinou were famous semi-economists and during the Italian occupation, Koskinou was one of the most prosperous villages on the island …
